Assalaamu Alaikum (Greetings of Peace):
The information reported by Press TV and other sources regarding the alleged FBI detention of the grandson of El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz (Malcolm X) appears to be untrue. I personally made an attempt to speak with a couple of trustworthy Muslims in New York who are mutual friends of the Shabazz family and this writer. (I just got off the phone with Imam Talib Abdur-Rashid, of MIB and the Majlis Ashura of New York, and he provided me with much needed clarity on the situation.)
It appears that young Malcolm Shabazz has indeed been arrested, and that he is in New York, but he is NOT in federal custody! It also appears (at least on the surface) that his arrest hasnothing to do with Iran.
According to Imam Talib, Malcolm has been in contact with his family. The request to the community is to make du'a for him (and his family); and as soon as we have more details that we can share with the community on the circumstance surrounding this latest challenge, we will let you know.
On a final note, I've requested of Imam Talib - and I request this of anyone else who may have contact with this young brother - let him know his brother Saalakhan would like to sit with him. Given his name and relationship to one of the most important figures in American history (and a true revolutionary), this young brother needs to be fully aware of the opportunities and the TRAPS that lay in his path; and he needs to be schooled by people who are sincerely concerned about him, his family, and the rich legacy of the man who's name he bears.

Malcolm X Family 'Disturbed' Over False Reporting About Grandson's Arrest

Posted: Feb 6, 2013 by kimosorio1

The family of Malcolm X is clearing up a false story that broke yesterday about the arrest of Malcolm Lateef Shabazz, the grandson of the late human rights leader. According to Malaak Shabazz, the daughter of Malcolm X, Iran's Press TV incorrectly reported that Malcolm Shabazz was arrested by FBI agents on his way to that country.
According to the false reports, which were also carried and repeated by other news sources, Shabazz was on his way to Tehran to attend the 3rd annual Hollywoodism International Conference, where members of the film industry, activists and scholars gather in the Iranian capital to address issues with Hollywood being used to push forward propaganda.  That information is false. Though there has been no other information about his arrest, the family is disturbed about the inaccurate news.
TheSource.Com has learned that although he was arrested, Shabazz was not arrested by “FBI agents,” and his issues were unrelated to a federal case, and having nothing to do with Iran.  "It is disturbing that false reporting continues to be made, distributed, and re-published about members of our family. My sisters and I are disturbed over the non-stop false reports and portrayals of our family," Malaak Shabazz told TheSource.com.
Check back with thesource.com for more details on this story as it unfolds.
