PRISONER AWARENESS: BABAR AHMAD: APPEAL

Bismillahi Rahmani Raheem.

The believers are nothing else than brothers (in Islâmic religion). So make reconciliation between your brothers, and fear Allâh, that you may receive mercy. (Al Hujurat 49:10)

Surah Al-E-Imran
And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allâh (i.e. this Qur'ân), and be not divided among yourselves[], and remember Allâh's Favour on you, for you were enemies one to another but He joined your hearts together, so that, by His Grace, you became brethren (in Islâmic Faith), and you were on the brink of a pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus Allâh makes His Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.,) clear to you, that you may be guided. (3:103)

HADITH: "A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, so he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor. WHOEVER FULFILLED THE NEEDS OF HIS BROTHER, ALLAH WILL FULFILL HIS NEEDS; whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allah will bring him out of the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened a Muslim, Allah will screen him on the Day of Resurrection." [Bukhari]

Your Brother Babar Ahmad.

Most of you should know about the plight of our brother Babar Ahmad.

Beaten down to the sujood (prostration) position then questioned "Where is your God now?", British political prisoner, Babar Ahmad is spending his seventh year in captivity awaiting extradition to the United States.

Babar Ahmad is a 37 year old British Muslim and the longest detained-without-charge British detainee held as part of the global ‘war on terror’. In December 2003 Babar was arrested at his London home under anti-terror legislation. By the time he reached the police station Babar had sustained at least 73 forensically recorded injuries, including bleeding in his ears and urine. Six days later he was released without charge.
In August 2004 Babar was re-arrested in London and taken to prison pursuant to an extradition request from the US under the controversial, no-evidence-required, Extradition Act 2003. The US has alleged that in the 1990s Babar was a supporter of “terrorism”. Babar denies any involvement in terrorism. He has now been in prison for six years even though he has not been charged in the UK.

Where will Babar go if he is extradited to America?

SUPERMAX PRISONS IN THE U.S

Supermax (short for "super-maximum security") is the name used to describe "control-unit" prisons, or units within prisons, which represent the most secure levels of custody in the prison systems of certain countries. The objective is to provide long term, segregated housing for inmates classified as the highest security risks in the prison system — the "worst of the worst" criminals, those whose crimes have been made popular by the media, and those who pose a threat to national and international security.

In supermax, prisoners are generally allowed out of their cells for only one hour a day (in California state prisons they are allowed out for one hour and 30 minutes); often they are kept in solitary confinement. They receive their meals through ports, also known as "chuck holes" or "bean slots," in the doors of their cells. When supermax inmates are allowed to exercise, this may take place in a small, enclosed area where the prisoner will exercise alone.

Prisoners are under constant surveillance, usually with closed-circuit television cameras. Cell doors are usually opaque, while the cells may be windowless. Conditions are plain, with poured concrete or metal furniture common. Often cell walls, and sometimes plumbing, are soundproofed to prevent communication between the inmates.

Supermax and Security Housing Unit (SHU) prisons are controversial; some claim that the living conditions in such facilities violate the United States Constitution, specifically, theEighth Amendment's proscription against "cruel and unusual" punishments. In 1996, a United Nations team assigned to investigate torture described SHU conditions as "inhuman and degrading". A New York Bar association study comprehensive study suggests that Super max prisons constitute "torture under international law" and "cruel and unusual punishment under the U.S. constitution."

There is no congregate dining, no congregate exercise, no work opportunities and no congregate religious services.

DECOMPENSATION

The drawings of Todd (Hyung-Rae) Tarselli, a prisoner confined in a Pennsylvania “close-security” or “supermaximum” prison, tell a story—one that graphically portrays the devastating effects of a prison on the mental health of its inmates.

Todd based his drawing Decompensation on his observation of prisoners held for years under supermaximum confinement It depicts what prisoners call “breaking”—that is, losing one’s mind under extreme conditions of deprivation and isolation.

Some supermaximum prisoners describe experiences of anxiety, rage, dissociation, and psychosis. One man who had been in and out of isolation for several years said, “Sometimes I see things that is on the wall. . . . Sometimes I hear voices. . . . There is nobody to talk to . . . and vent my frustration and, as a result, sometimes I am violent. Pound on the walls. Yell and scream.” Speaking of the possibility of transferring to a mental health facility, he said, “I wanted to die and I wanted some help.”

Babar Ahmad as a prisoner in a supermax prison will spend 22-23 hours a day in solitary confinement, he will get once a month phone call, nothing more, and who can say when Babar will get visitors as his family lives in Britain.

Your brother Babar needs your help at this time. Will you be able to answer to Allah on Yawm al Qiyamah, when you did nothing to help your brother in time of need?

What can you do?

First of all we know that there is no help except with Allah. You can and should/must make dua for your brothers and sisters suffering all over the world.

We are appealing to those in Britain to take this pledge.

Print at least ONE printable sheet of the petition, get people to 'sign' it including their email, YOU then go to the petition site and fill in all details for each person, the people then get emails and they just click on a link! How easy!
